Deconstructing…

It is amazing how we manage to be defined by our roles, our titles, the companies we work for… we spend very little intentional time just being unmasked… I went to dinner a couple of months ago with a partner from one of the large accounting firms who had just left the partnership and was now out on his own… he remains as smart and as talented as he always was… yet he remarked how many people had sidestepped him as he no longer possessed the all-important moniker of partner at a prestigious accounting firm… so the truth is, it was peculiar and unsettling to introduce myself to 30 smart, ambitious well-titled fellow participants and just be me with no company or global title behind which to hide … oh and the course has been surprisingly interesting… tomorrow is financial literacy and driving financial performance and I am hoping for a minor miracle to create an accountant out of this clay…
