With new eyes

My visitor from Oz arrived last night… bleary-eyed and shell-shocked and we drank red wine as a sedative :-)… today we did something I don’t remember ever doing here… we wandered through Bo-Kaap – the beautiful and colourful area just above the city… whose original residents were Cape Malay – most were descendants of slaves that were brought to the Cape centuries ago… and as you wander past some of the shops the gorgeous aromas of curry and tumeric and samoosas are just mouth-watering… I am lucky enough later this month to be doing a private cooking lesson with one of the famous Cape Malay chefs here – so as we walked on this grey and gloomy day all my senses were in overdrive with a mix of spices, and brightly coloured homes and cobbled stone streets and the Imam calling his faithful to lunch-time prayer… what a special discovery this was.
