Sacred Goddess in Sri Lanka

From our retreat we took an excursion to a Unesco heritage-listed site, Sigiriya… a boiling hot, slow drive to this enormous rock that has mythological and religious history… I sweated my way up 2500 steps to the top of this monolith… on the way up (between my cursing and heat rash) we stopped in a cave that has been protected from the elements for 1500 years… and there in honour of (some say) Lady Tara are “the maidens of the clouds” … these astonishing rock paintings from the 6th century AD a celebration of the sacred feminine…
